2009 Quality ReportThis is the 13th annual assessment by the Vermont Program for Quality in Health Care (VPQ) measuring the quality of health care received by Vermonters. The first Quality Report, as these publications are known, was released in 1996. By 2001, the Quality Report was recognized for its excellence by the Institute of Medicine (http://www.iom.edu/) and subsequently served as the template for the National Health Care Quality Report, now published by the Agency of Healthcare Research and Quality, US Department of Health and Human Services (http://www.ahrq.gov/). No single report can completely cover a subject as broad and complex as our health care delivery system, so each installment of the Quality Report has focused its analysis on a particular set of topics. The Reports include recommendations either for continuing study or action. This year’s Report contains updates on quality areas focused on in previous Reports, as well as information on new topics of interest and summaries of a few current VPQ-sponsored statewide quality improvement activities. Importantly, the Report also illustrates the broad engagement by the provider community in quality improvement activities and their dedicated commitment to quality. VPQ continues to provide intense systems improvement training with medical practices across the state. We welcome your feedback about this report and our activities. VPQHC is dedicated to continually improving the manner in which we report and inform our readers about the quality of care and caregivers in Vermont.
