Studies on Vermont’s Medicare Population

Vermont has one of the lowest birth rates in the United States and in recent years has been transitioning to a population dominated by older adults.  This trend has significant implications for the local, long-term care system.

Our research using Vermont Medicare data seeks to inform the state of the healthcare utilization and disease prevalence among this growing population.  Our research also seeks to provide a more complete understanding about the healthcare needs and use of services for Vermonters with dual Medicaid and Medicare coverage.  Until now, Vermont has not had comprehensive data available with which to study the healthcare system and assess quality of care provided to aging Vermonters.

The following series of brief reports describe Vermont's Medicare population, a profile of their chronic conditions, and their use of health services.
