AHRQ: Toolkit for Reduction of Clostridium difficile Through Antimicrobial Stewardship
Clostridium difficile infection (C. difficile) is a serious public health problem that has
recently increased in both incidence and severity. Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC) surveillance data show that U.S. hospital discharges with C. difficile
doubled between 2000 and 2003 and rates are highest in the northeastern United States.
Persons over age 65 years have been most affected, but recent changes in epidemiology
suggest that lower risk populations, including healthy postpartum women and community
dwellers with no recent healthcare contact or antimicrobial exposures, may also be
affected.

Successful Strategies for the Prevention of Urinary Tract Infections in Long-Term Care TOOLKIT (Fall 2011)
This urinary tract infections (UTI) toolkit contains infection prevention presentations, resources, and tools that have been adapted for long-term care facilities (LTCFs). The toolkit was developed as a result of a collaborative effort between 12 nursing homes in the Eastern region of Virginia, the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAI) Program, and the Virginia Health Care Association (VHCA) to impart best practices in the prevention of UTIs within the long-term care (LTC) population
